Now Pepsi is addressing the world with a bold, black sans serif font. Since 1958, Pepsi had positioned itself as the brand of young people (implying that Coca-Cola was the brand of the "old" or those who had remained stuck in the past). In the 1960s, the Pepsi logo became more symmetrical, and therefore more modern and geometric. The brand opted for a minimalist, even brutalist font, and openly targeted an audience of young consumers, referring to them as the "Pepsi generation" in a 1961 ad campaign.

Via CleanPNG But Pepsi didn't actually just remove the capsule ridges from its logo. For the first time in the brand's history, the logo has a colored background. With red on the left and light blue on the right, white being reserved for the outlines and the central band which serves as the background for the word "Pepsi". The font remains unchanged from the previous version, but the brand name is written in smaller type to fit inside the perimeter of the globe, in addition to now being in blue.  The Pepsi challenge.
