Some crucial modernist photographs in Álvarez Bravo are Instrumental or La Tolteca both from.  Instrumental  Manuel Alvarez Bravo. Instrumental  Even in numerous images produced throughout his life one can find the use of highangle shots and lowangle shots so typical of Alexander Rodchenko's constructivism. Don Manuel approached surrealism voluntarily and involuntarily. André Bretón found in the work of the Mexican an alternate reality in traveling seraphs between sheepfolds  Angels in a truck   and eyes in a parallel world full of reflections.

His Mannequins laughing at him  would be another important e-commerce photo editing example of this period. These metaworlds would continue to form part of the photographer's work as can be seen in Visions Box  or Multiple Walks. Don Manuel also voluntarily did by André Bretón himself for the Minotaure magazine. Of his works considered to be surrealist one of the most important is the Optical Parábola  a masterpiece that summarizes how Álvarez Bravo has assimilated Atget. It is a game of meanings even literary since.

The modern optics the typographic label shown there could well be seen as a subtle manifesto of the appearance of the avantgarde the spirit of modern photography in Mexican aesthetics. However the direction of the gaze the eye the essential icon of surrealism becomes multiple allencompassing lurking like an omniscient narrator who sees everything and knows everything about an ethereal landscape of that city that is reflected in the sideboard.
