The nightmare of SEOs becomes a reality: Google will now encrypt via SSL (that is to say via "https") all requests from Internet users, whether or not they are connected to their Google account. The keywords that will lead them to a site will therefore no longer be known: in Google Analytics, they will appear as " Not Provided ". The keywords purchased will remain known, which makes many observers say that this maneuver is only intended to encourage spending on AdWords.
For the record, Mountain View began to encrypt the results pages of Internet users connected to their Google account in October 2011. Then Mozilla did the same for those who used the List Of Consumer Mobile Number searchbox of its browser in July 2012. Then it was this year of Chrome to impose https, even for users not logged in to their Google account. Obviously, each of these measures has increased the number of not provided appearing in Google Analytics.
It is no longer uncommon for these not provided keywords to exceed 70% or even 80% of organic traffic. To say that at the beginning, Matt Cutts promised that it should not exceed 10% To deal with this situation which deprives them of crucial data, some SEOs are now turning to the new Paid & organic Report, provided in the dashboards of Adwords customers. Other methods, all imperfect, exist to try to recover data and trends on these now not provided keywords.
